چکیده

Aim Agriculture is one of the greatest pressures on biodiversity. Regional studies have shown that presence natural habitat and landscape heterogeneity are beneficial for biodiversity in agriculture, but it remains unclear whether their importance varies geographically. Here, we use local data to determine which variables most associated with patterns association between tropical non-tropical regions. Location Global terrestrial area forest biomes. Major taxa studied More than 21,000 species vertebrates, invertebrates, plants other taxa. Methods We used generalized linear mixed-effects models analyse relationships either community total abundance or richness (derived from PREDICTS database) a number site-level (predominant land land-use intensity) landscape-level (distance forest, percentage surrounding landscape, homogeneity, land-cover types fertilizer application). compared associations these Results In cases, changes were greater those intensity. Increased availability was consistent increases Landscape homogeneity also important showed different directions change Associations application generally weaker, although still magnitude measures. Main conclusions Our results highlight similarities differences local- landscape-scale had positive biodiversity, highlighting key role management maintenance croplands. Landscape-scale almost always local-scale

Effects of habitat disturbance on tropical forest biodiversity.

It is widely expected that habitat destruction in the tropics will cause a mass extinction in coming years, but the potential magnitude of the loss is unclear. Existing literature has focused on estimating global extinction rates indirectly or on quantifying effects only at local and regional scales. This paper directly predicts global losses in 11 groups of organisms that would ensue from dist...

Natural Forest Management and Conservation of Biodiversity in Tropical Forests

As a reaction to the continued dwindling of tropical forest resources, many research and development organizations have turned to the idea of natural forest management in the hope of making tropical forest lands more profitable while maintaining biodiversity. Assertions of sustainability in logging practices have been inadequately supported, however. We begin with a review of the present knowle...

Plant Biodiversity under Impact of Slope Position in Managed and Unmanaged Beech Forest of Asalem-Gilan

This study was carried out in managed and unmanaged Fagus orientalis L. (beech) stands in the Asalem beech forest in order to compare the composition and diversity of plant species. Three V-shaped catena landforms were selected for each stand. Then, large quadrats, 400 m2 area, with selective method and within each of them, small quadrats, 4 m2 area, were established along each catena and slope...

critical period effects in foreign language learning:the influence of maturational state on the acquisition of reading, writing, and grammar in english as a foreign language

since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...

Habitat models as a research gap in biodiversity conservation in tropical rain forest of southeast Asia

Tropical rain forests, the richest terrestrial ecosystem on earth are disappearing due to land use changes mainly agricultural activities and timber logging. Habitat alteration and as a result fragmentation have direct effect on species survival trough lose of connectivity between suitable habitats. Without a doubt the traditional strategies for protecting different wildlife species in this reg...
